Dynamite Shot Down by B-52's in the Arena Soccer US Open

The Denver Dynamite, who has participated in all but one U.S. Open Arena Soccer Championships, faced off against their first professional adversary since their pro era (2008-10); the PASL expansion, Wichita B-52s indoor soccer team who claimed a 15-6 win Saturday at Hartman Arena in front of a crowd of 1,497 spectators.

Down 3-2 after the first quarter, then after trading goals in the second quarter, the Dynamite allowed Wichita to go on a 6-1 run to trail 10-4 at the half. Wichita added three unanswered goals in the third quarter before the Dynamite broke the scoring drought 12 seconds into the fourth quarter on an Avery restart at the top of the goal arc.

“Wichita B-52's were great hosts. The arena was awesome and the atmosphere was great. We talked about weathering storms during the game. We knew going in we were the underdog and would have to play pretty flawless to have a chance. A lot of nerves showed in the first 5 minutes and put us into a 2 goal hole. We rebounded nicely though to make it 3-2 at end of 1st. Our 2nd quarter was bad all together. We put ourselves in a big hole at half being down 10-4” Coach Jay Hamilton said. “We talked at half about just competing and trying to win each quarter. The score line wasn't in our favor I felt we played very good and we can take many things out of this game. My guys competed against a very good experienced team and except for one quarter competed well.”

Denver’s, Tony Avery scored three goals for a hat trick in addition to his assist. George Hunt and Luke Burgard each added a goal, while Captain Travis Carey tallied both a goal and an assist. Also on the board with two assists each were Michael Lind and Sterling Copeland.

For Wichita, Heviel Cordoves scored four goals to lead the B-52s. Nathan Aragano Lima Modesto scored three goals with three assists for the B-52s. Brent Hobson added two goals with an assist. Kevin Jackson scored two goals. Larry Martinez scored a goal with two assists. Matt Clare and Brady Bryant each scored a goal with an assist. Alex Mosely also scored a goal.

Jordan Howes had 22 saves for Denver while Nathan Keith had nine saves for Wichita.

“We will hopefully take these experiences gained and move toward trying to win our league and go to nationals. We know we still have a lot of work to do but we will keep moving forward to get better.” Coach Hamilton
