Dynamite Shot Down by B-52's in the Arena Soccer US Open
The Denver Dynamite, who has participated in all but one U.S. Open Arena Soccer Championships, faced off against their first professional adversary since their pro era (2008-10); the PASL expansion, Wichita B-52s indoor soccer team who claimed a 15-6 win Saturday at Hartman Arena in front of a crowd of 1,497 spectators.Down 3-2 after the first quarter, then after trading goals in the second quarter, the Dynamite allowed Wichita to go on a 6-1 run to trail 10-4 at the half. Wichita added three unanswered goals in the third quarter before the Dynamite broke the scoring drought 12 seconds into the fourth quarter on an Avery restart at the top of the goal arc.
“Wichita B-52's were great hosts. The arena was awesome and the atmosphere was great. We talked about weathering storms during the game. We knew going in we were the underdog and would have to play pretty flawless to have a chance. A lot of nerves showed in the first 5 minutes and put us into a 2 goal hole. We rebounded nicely though to make it 3-2 at end of 1st. Our 2nd quarter was bad all together. We put ourselves in a big hole at half being down 10-4” Coach Jay Hamilton said. “We talked at half about just competing and trying to win each quarter. The score line wasn't in our favor I felt we played very good and we can take many things out of this game. My guys competed against a very good experienced team and except for one quarter competed well.”
Denver’s, Tony Avery scored three goals for a hat trick in addition to his assist. George Hunt and Luke Burgard each added a goal, while Captain Travis Carey tallied both a goal and an assist. Also on the board with two assists each were Michael Lind and Sterling Copeland. For Wichita, Heviel Cordoves scored four goals to lead the B-52s. Nathan Aragano Lima Modesto scored three goals with three assists for the B-52s. Brent Hobson added two goals with an assist. Kevin Jackson scored two goals. Larry Martinez scored a goal with two assists. Matt Clare and Brady Bryant each scored a goal with an assist. Alex Mosely also scored a goal.
Jordan Howes had 22 saves for Denver while Nathan Keith had nine saves for Wichita.“We will hopefully take these experiences gained and move toward trying to win our league and go to nationals. We know we still have a lot of work to do but we will keep moving forward to get better.” Coach Hamilton
The Dynamite (1-1) return home for league action to face the Rocky Mountain Bighorns (0-1) Sunday January 12th at the Apex Field House in Arvada for youth soccer night; $2 tickets for kids under 18 wearing their club jersey and $5 for adults at the door. Kickoff at 3:15pm.

Depleted Dynamite Roster No Match for a Full Blizzard
The Denver Dynamite may have been eliminated from the
playoffs the weekend prior to this past one, but they still had a chance to
play spoiler to the Colorado Blizzard and send the expansion FC Denver packing
to the National Finals in San Diego.
Even before this match was reduced to a spoiler, the
Dynamite were looking continue their dominance over the Blizzard this year and send
the regular season out with a BANG by signing a former MVP with three MISL (Major
Indoor Soccer League) championships under his belt, former player/coach Chris “Solo”
Handsor, for the remainder of the season (and for a possible post season at the
time).
But the “Force” was not with the Dynamite as they ended the
season on a 2 game slide starting with the loss of Chad Pearson and Josh Elbaum
due to injury in the weeks before.
Adding insult to injury, Sean Stedeford, Roby Monroe and Mark Cromie
turned on top of a flight issue that prevented Handor from making it to the
game.
After allowing 3 goals in the first quarter, the Dynamite
appeared to have gotten thing under control in the 2nd as they not
only doubled the Blizzard with shots on goal, but also shut them down
completely and head into the lockers still only down 3-0.
Missing a veteran crew in the back proved detrimental in the
third period to the Dynamite as time after time they found themselves unable to
mark the back post let alone clear many of goal keeper Garrison Goodener’s
initial saves. With 3:13 remaining in
the match, Denver would finally stop the bleeding, and end the Blizzard shutout
with a Tony Thomas Power Play Goal off a human Wall Pass from Tony Avery to
George Hunt.
The Dynamite will still see action on Sunday, March 3rd at 6:00PM as
they are set to host the first annual All Star Game at the Apex Field House.
Appearing on the North roster for the Dynamite are Garrision Goodner, Jay
Hamilton, Tony Thomas, Tony Avery, Mike Ogletree, Josh Elbaum and Travis Carey.

Dynamite Postseason Hopes Dashed in Do-or-Die Loss to FC Denver
Last Friday night at the Westminster Sports Center, the
Dynamite were hoping that 3 times would be a charm in their rematch versus FC
Denver, a match they could not lose if they wanted to remain in the
championship hunt.
FC Denver would jump out of the gate quickly, with Ben
Donovan and Ryan Tuomi combining on the first two goals. Tuomi scored the first
with 12:48 remaining, and Donovan the second at 3:06. With 38 seconds remaining, Joel Miller
finished off a deflected Ryan McAleer shot to put FC Denver up 3-0.
The Dynamite would come alive in the second quarter, receiving
a great opportunity when FC Denver was awarded their 6th foul with
8:42 remaining. The Dynamite generated numerous
opportunities during a textbook power play.
Near the end of the two minutes Tony
Thomas found Javier Larios at the top of the arc, and Larios put the Dynamite
on the board. With 5:02 remaining, Mark Cromie
scored off a Free Kick to cut the score to 3-2.
After numerous opportunities and a dominant second quarter, things
looked promising for the Dynamite going into the half.
In the second half the floodgates would open. FC Denver opened up the scoring early in the
third with an Ian Marcheshi goal, assisted by Ben Donovan. Down 4-2 the Dynamite faced and killed a
power play, and for a brief period it looked like they were still in the
match. Then Tyler Wilson assisted on a Grant
Lundberg goal at 7:41, and Edgar Olivas scored at 5:15 to give FC Denver a comfortable
6-2 lead.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, a Dynamite mistake
would result in a Ben Donovan goal (assisted by Goalkeeper AJ Fleisher). Ben
Donovan would score yet again with 11:38 remaining, assisted by Ben Stump. Less than a minute later Stump would assist
on another goal, this time by Joel Miller.
The six straight goals gave FC Denver a commanding 9-2 lead. With 8:06 remaining Justin Ferguson touched
in a Jay Hamilton pass to cut the score to 9-3, although it was too little too
late for the Dynamite.
Ben Donovan led the FC Denver attack with 2 goals and 2
assists. Joel Miller also had 2
goals. Ryan Tuomi had 1 goal and 1
assist. Justin Ferguson, Javier Larios, and Mark
Cromie were the goal scorers for the Dynamite.
AJ Fleisher starred again in goal for FC Denver, with 37 saves and only
3 Goals Allowed. Jordan Howes pulled in
34 saves for the Dynamite.
The loss eliminates the Dynamite ahead of their final
regular season match against the Colorado Blizzard this Saturday at 8:30pm, at
the APEX Field House in Arvada. The
match will see the one game return of Chris Handsor, who starred for the
Dynamite in their PASL-Pro days. The
Dynamite can also play spoiler, as the Blizzard need a win or tie to claim the
Rocky Mountain Division title. A win by
the Dynamite means the title goes to FC Denver.

FC Denver Defuses the Dynamite Again, 8-3
In the
second meeting with their new inner city rivals FC Denver, the Dynamite looked
to avenge their only loss of the season and keep pace with the Colorado
Blizzard for first place.
FC
Denver opened the scoring in the first minute with a Tyler Wilson goal. A defensive stalemate would ensue for the
remainder of the half, with both clubs having equal number of
opportunities. It was still anyone’s
game, as FC Denver went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
The
second half would open with another FC Denver goal in the first minute, by
Brady Yarletts. A Travis Carey Blue Card
gave FC Denver a power play, which they capitalized on with 10:50 remaining as
Ian Marcheschi assisted Joel Miller.
Less than a minute later Alex Aguirre would knock home another Marcheschi
pass to give the Green Machine a 4-0 lead.
The Dynamite would finally score with 8:22 remaining in the third, as
Tony Thomas put a Justin Ferguson pass past the keeper. Shane Wheeler rounded out the third quarter
scoring (assist by Alex Aguirre) to give FC Denver a commanding 5-1 lead.
In the
fourth quarter, a boarding penalty by Travis Carey followed by the Dynamite’s 6th
team foul gave FC Denver a two man advantage at 12:30. The 5-3 advantage resulted in Shane Wheeler’s
second goal for FC Denver, assisted by Raul Elias. The 6-1 lead would last up to the 4:52 mark,
when Tony Thomas scored his second goal for the Dynamite (assist by Joey
Covillo) to trim the lead to 6-2. The
final minute of the match saw 3 goals, by FC Denver’s Raul Elias (assist by
Ryan McAleer), the Dynamite’s Josh Elbaum, and FC Denver’s Brandon Best, to end
the scoring at 8-3. The FC Denver win
vaults them into second place, and drops the Dynamite into third.
With
two matches remaining, the Dynamite must get the FC Denver monkey off their
back as they face the Green Machine for the third and final time, this Friday
night at 8:30pm at the Westminster Sports Center. The Dynamite now sit a full game behind the
Colorado Blizzard, and must win this match if they hope to stay within striking
distance of the Blizzard for their season finale.

Dynamite Double Up Cavalry, 10-5
The Denver Dynamite took on the CSC
Cavalry in a must win match, in order to keep pace with the two clubs ahead of
them in the standings. After almost 10
minutes with no score, Midfielder Justin Ferguson would open up the scoring for
the Dynamite, assisted by Tony Thomas. With
1:23 remaining in the first quarter, Josh Elbaum would knock home a Travis
Carey pass to give the Dynamite a 2-0 lead.
The Cavalry would open up the second
quarter with an Eduar Rodriguez goal, cutting the lead to 2-1 with 11:45 remaining
in the half. Mike Ogletree would connect
on a Javier Larios pass with 7 minutes remaining, and Greg Borchers knocked in
a rebound to close out the half, with the Dynamite leading 4-1.
In the third quarter, the offense
would explode on both sides. Only 20
seconds in, Francisco Evora would score for the Cavalry, assisted by Pete
Randall. Travis Carey would answer for
the Dynamite 2 minutes later. With 10:28
remaining, Javier Larios would score off a steal/breakaway, extending the
Denver lead to 6-2. The clubs would
trade goals for the remainder of the quarter.
Pete Randall for the Cavalry (8:45 left), Travis Carey for the Dynamite
(off a rebound with 7:15 left), and Beto Hernandez for the Cavalry (Assist by
Eduar Rodriguez with 3:05 left), making the score 7-4 Dynamite after 3.
Early in the fourth quarter, the
Dynamite received their 6th foul, giving the Cavalry a power
play. Not only would the Dynamite kill
it, but Luke Burgard would score a shorthanded goal right at the end of the two
minutes, extending the Denver lead to 8-4.
With 7:35 remaining Tony Thomas received a Blue Card to give the Cavalry
a second power play. This time they would
capitalize immediately with a Beto Hernandez free kick goal. This would cut the margin to 3 goals, and the
Dynamite would respond with another Javier Larios goal with 4:56 on the
clock. Denver would finish out the
scoring with a Jay Hamilton power play goal (assist by Tony Avery) to win 10-5.
Javier Larios had a breakthrough
match for the Dynamite with 2 goals and 1 assist. Travis Carey also had 2 goals and 1 assist in
a team effort for the Dynamite, who had 8 other players with one goal
apiece. Beto Hernandez led the Cavalry
with 2 goals and 1 assist. Dynamite Goalkeeper
Garrison Goodner led the game in the save department, with 21. The win moves the Dynamite into second place,
just in time for a showdown with the league leading Colorado Blizzard, late
this Saturday in Colorado Springs at 10:40pm.
A Dynamite victory would put them in a tie for first, and a loss would
put them two games down with only three remaining.

Sparks Fly as Dynamite Outlast Cavalry
Three weeks ago, when the Denver Dynamite faced the CSC Cavalry in Monument, they were denied their 4th trip to the US Open Arena Soccer Championships Round of 16 suffering a devastating 12-7 loss. This past Saturday, was a different story as the Dynamite continued to shift their momentum forward toward the post season; but not before a 1st quarter scare.
The first quarter opened up with an offensive onslaught by
both sides, but Dynamite keeper Garrison Goodner was equal to the task for most
of it; not allowing a goal until two slipped by in the final 6 minutes of the
period. The second quarter saw the
Dynamite ignite as Travis Carey connected with a Josh Elbaum pass into the
corner for an upper ninety shot to get Denver on the board. Seven minutes later, Sean Stedeford would
send a Tony Thomas restart rocketing into the back of the netting to end the half
with both teams level at 2.
The third quarter opened with a bang as the Dynamite
continued to let their sparks fly as Ryan Truxal gave Denver their first lead
of the night just 56 seconds in. Not
even a minute later, Justin Ferguson would convert off of rookie George Hunt to
extend their lead to 4-2. But the Cavalry
would find their way to the back of the net to draw the game within 1 halfway
through the period. The defensive battle
would continue with Goodner making several clutch saves, and just when it
appeared that the game was destined to head into the 4th as is,
Travis Carey lit of the boards again burying a Tony Thomas corner kick for the eventual
game winner.
Enter the fourth quarter; all the frustration from both
offenses began to mount resulting in 3 power plays. While the Dynamite, could not find their way past
Orlando Rojas again, the Cavalry were able to convert on their power-play to
make it a one goal game once again.
However, the Cavalry would self-destruct on their attack with an illegal
slide in the Dynamite’s offensive zone meriting a blue card and a power-play
with just 3:35 remaining in the match followed by a scuffle in front of the net
that may have proved the Cavalry’s Scotty Lilibridge lucky to have just exited
the match with a yellow card; and the Dynamite would hold on for their first
victory of the season and to close out 2012 in 2nd place.
“We were able to play a much better
and more up tempo game despite not having 5 key players Joey Covillo, Jay
Hamilton, Michael Ogletree, Roby Monroe and Mark Cromie who were not available
for this match. Going down 2-0 early, we were able to make the necessary
adjustments to win the next 3 quarters and
ultimately pull off the 5-4 win! With players like Ryan Truxal, Luke Burgard,
George Hunt and Greg Borchers stepping up in replacement, these younger guys
gave a spark that turned the tables and helped us to the victory! Tonight showed
that we can count on everyone on this team to make and impact and difference
when called upon" said Coach Estrada.
The Dynamite return to action
January 13th at their home in the Apex Field House against Cavalry for
their final regular season meeting and if the past two matches have anything to
say; it sure will be another barn burner. Single Game tickets are still available online
or at the door for just $5.
