While the Denver Dynamite looked for a four-peat into the US Open Arena
Soccer Championship's Round of 16; the revived CSC Cavalry were looking
to roll into Vegas.
The first quarter closed at 2-1, where the Dynamite found themselves
trailing the Cavalry by a goal. By halftime the Cavalry increased their
margin, taking a 5-2 advantage into the lockers.
At the close
of the third quarter, despite both teams going full throttle, the
Dynamite found themselves in a hefty 9-3 hole. And though the fourth
quarter found itself in a whole different story from the rest of the
match as the Dynamite finally found their mojo and out scored the
Cavalry 4-3, it proved too little too late. Cavalry indeed cash-in a
12-7 final and will face the Legends in Las Vegas on December 28th.
On the board for the Cavalry were "Beto" Hernandez (4 goals), Tom
Story (3 goals, 1 assist), Pete Randall (2 goals, 4 assists), Poncho
Puente (1 goal, 2 assists) and both Matt Johnson & Eduar "Honduras"
Rodriguez each tallied a goal, while keeper Miguel Reyes registered 47
saves for the win.
"It was a good performance for our first game back. Hopefully it
helped our confidence that we could play with (and ultimately beat) a
strong and established Denver Dynamite side. Certainly we do not want
to get ahead of ourselves as the we are still 0-0 in the league, fully
expect the Dynamite to grow even stronger and face the defending
champion Colorado Blizzard next weekend. But its a strong start, and
playing against the Las Vegas Legends should be a real test of our
ability." Cavalry's Player Coach Pete Randall
Cavalry forward Beto adds, "It was a good way to come back to this
league. I am excited to go to Vegas and to see something different.
Hopefully, we can change things for the division and we will not come
back with a loss."
Though disappointed about not advancing this year in the USOASC and
despite converting on 4 out of 5 power plays, the Dynamite congratulated
the Cavalry on their win and wish them success in Vegas.
On the
board for the Dynamite were Chad Pearson (3 goals), Jay Hamilton (2
goals, 1 assist) and both Luke Burgard & Keegan Miller added a goal a
piece. Keepers Garrison Goodner & Jordan Howes accumulated 12
saves each while sharing equal time between the pipes, though Howes got
credited with the loss.
"We played all 17 players of which 8 were new to the team this
season. I am reassured that Jay was the right choice as player coach to
compliment me on the bench. We are still working on our tactical
identity and look to be much improved going into this week's game."
Dynamite's Technical Director Chuck Estrada
The Cavalry will face the PASL (Professional Arena Soccer League)'s
Las Vegas Legends at 7:05PM in the Orleans Center on December 28th at
7:05 in the Round of 16, but not before facing the Dynamite again in
league play on December 22nd.
Both the Dynamite and Cavalry open their league play this weekend
with their respective cross-town rivals, where the Dynamite travel to
Westminster to face FC Denver and the Cavalry host the defending Rocky
Mountain Division Colorado Blizzard.
